The Poor

18,000 kids die every day from starvation...
Some 18,000 children die every day because of hunger and malnutrition and 850 million people go to bed every night with empty stomachs, a "terrible indictment of the world in 2007," the head of the U.N. food agency said. —SOURCE
How sad and tragic! Even more tragic is WHY they are starving ... because of a greedy and selfish world that cares not for the poor. The United Nations is nothing more than a smokescreen for a global police state. We hear much talk about UN Aid for the poor, but the starvation continues. How is it that mankind can land a robot on Mars, build jets that travel 10 times the speed of sound, predict an eclipse 100 years from now to the minute, and so much more; but we can't prevent the poor from starving to death? It is a sore evil!
It's hard to imagine Hollywood celebrities throwing $100,000 parties, while Nigerians die for lack of a $10 bag of grain. While millions of people are starving to death in places like Africa, India, Afghanistan, Indonesia, and Timor, the rich are wasting billions of dollars on foolishness. I read this week in the news that rich people are paying upwards of $20,000,000 EACH for a space shuttle ride! That's for a single ride! So many wealthy people have signed up for the 20 million dollar space ride that the agency is booked until 2009...
As of 2006, space tourism is only affordable to wealthy individuals and corporations, with the Russian space program providing transport. It has become so popular that, even at $20 million a ticket, the Russian Space Agency is fully booked until 2009 —SOURCE
I just don't understand how anyone could justify spending that kind of money, knowing that so many little children are starving to death. If I had that kind of money, I would personally go to those poor nations and distribute the food and medical myself. I'm so sick of "charitable organizations," whose directors and officers make over $100,000 a year. Pat Robertson's 700 Club rakes in over $100,000,000 a year, and to no surprise they refuse to disclose where all the money goes to the BBB. James Robison is also guilty of hiding his organization's finances from the BBB. I think people who give money to these type organizations are foolish. You don't know what they're doing with your money! I'm sure with a little imagination we can get a fairly good picture. It's dishonest of them.
We always hear our politicians talking about reaching out to the poor, providing shelter for the homeless, and doing something about poverty; BUT, the poor never go away do they? Politicians, next to priests and ministers, are the biggest liars on the planet. Politicians talk with suave words to fool the masses, but then hurt the very people who entrusted them with a position of power. George W. Bush is a prime example. Anyone who is an honest observer knows that the Bush Administration had PRIOR knowledge to 911. The evidence is concrete and overwhelming. Hundreds of firefighters lost their lives on 911, and thousands more of America's citizens.
The U.S. government has further burdened America's citizens with outrageous deficit spending to pay for the war in Iraq. The New York Times and MSNBC estimate that the Iraqi war will cost over $1,000,000,000,000!!! Yet, the poor continue to starve to death for lack of a $10 bag of grain, basic medicines, and clean water to drink.
This year, total pet-related sales in the United States are projected to be $31 billion. An estimated $5 billion worth of holiday season gifts were offered – not to the poor – but to the roving family pets. Americans spend $20.3 billion a year on games and toys. One doesn't need toys to play with when the most popular game is playing deaf and blind to the needs of the poor. Americans spend $586.5 billion a year on gambling. $31 billion goes annually in the U.S. for tobacco products. $58 billion is spent on alcohol consumption. $250 billion dollars are spent annually in the U.S. on the medical treatment of tobacco and alcohol-related diseases. Here are $976.3 billion dollars – almost a trillion - spent every year in the US on pets, toys, gambling, alcohol and tobacco.
P. Diddy splurged on a gigantic birthday party, inviting 1,200 people including Martha Stewart and Penny Marshall. The party was held at Cipriani restaurant in New York City in 1998. The party was estimated to cost $500,000. Liza Minnelli reportedly spent $4 million on her 2002 wedding to music producer David Gest. Donald Trump has a taste for fine dining. He has a 24-hour on-call chef and a $365,000 mobile champagne cooler. Singer Mariah Carey owns a penthouse worth $9 million, which reportedly contains 500 pairs of high heels. Kate Hudson reportedly owns a pair of $30,000 pajamas. Singer Christina Aguilera owns a $5 million Hollywood Hills home with a 25-foot waterfall and a plasma-screen TV she built into the fireplace. Paris Hilton was 13-years-old when she got her first credit card. On her 21st birthday, she celebrated in five different locations, having $75,000+ parties in Tokyo, London, New York, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas.
